Best Men's Watches Under $300
Through the years, it became clear to us that budget is one of, if not the most common factor when picking out a watch, whether for yourself or a gift. (Although, on a curious note, gift budgets do seem, more often than not, more extended in comparison). That's why we're starting a series on Tornado watches organized by price range, beginning with the one searched most often in the men's category: watches under $300. To keep the range meaningful, we're setting each blog to cover a range of $100, making first instalment cover Tornado's collections between $200 and $300.
The Lumina Chronosphere | T25103
Starting with the big-hitters, the Lumina Chronosphere is often priced between $315 and $285, depending on offers and variants. A unique modern sports watch with a dial decidedly busier than New York streets on Holiday season, this men’s chronograph watch is powered by the tried and tested JS05 movement from Miyota. As with all Tornado timepieces, the case is built in 316L stainless steel, and the dial protected by sapphire-coated glass for a balance of scratch and shatter resistance. An all-rounder sports chronograph that walks the walk.
The Tornado Xenith Multifunction | T23105, T23105L
The flagship Tornado design, the Xenith Multifunction is an all-time best seller, and somewhat of a face for the brand’s line. The Xenith Multifunction is offered as two separate collections, and the difference is not entirely cosmetic:
The 23105L is the younger of the siblings, featuring a 316L stainless steel tonneau case, finished with a wood-grain pattern, encasing a multifunction dial with 24h time, date, and weekday sub-dials, protected by sapphire crystal for near immunity from scratches. The newer Xenith is available in two colour variations: black, and green, palettes differing in the crown, the FKM strap, and the signature Xenith dial, priced at $265.
The T23105, the OG Xenith, features a brushed metallic tonneau case in the same material, ornate with exposed screws, the original Xenith multifunction has sapphire-coated crystal protecting the dial, and premium silicone straps, featured in seven distinct colour schemes, and is priced lower, ranging from $240-$250.
The Gift Box Chronograph | T25104S
The official gift-watch of the Tornado line (in case the name wasn’t on-point), offers a classic-styled chronograph watch, with the seconds-counter replacing the seconds-hand. Out of the two sub-dials, one shows 24h time, while the other is a minutes-counter for the stopwatch function. The piece is offered in four colour ways: the first two, featuring a panda-styled dial, and the second, with an all-blue dial, both paired to a stainless-steel bracelet, while the third and fourth, with ivory and white dials are paired to leather straps, in brown and black respectively.
The watch comes in a Gift Box, all black, including the watch, certificates and manual, along with a Tornado-branded men’s wallet, the set priced from $245 to $270, across variants and offers.
The Aristocrate | T26102
The Aristocrate, is a new, modern addition to the Tornado line: a cushion-cased men’s watch in a neo-formal design, with chronograph functionality, thanks to Seiko’s VD54 movement. The tachymeter-lined dial is covered by sapphire crystal, offering near-perfect immunity to scratches.
Priced $245-$255, the Aristocrate is a versatile addition to any men’s collection: a clean, understated, functional design that manages to stay markedly unique.
Cosmic Chrono | T22103
A familiar classic race-style chronograph featuring a tachymeter bezel, triple sub-dials and a characterizing presidential dial. An evergreen design that works across formal and casual settings, spread across 5 colourways, with black, green and blue dial colours across silver, gold, and two-tone bracelets. Priced around $200-$245, the Cosmic Chrono is a bang-for-the-buck men’s watch assured to start a few conversations.
Lumina Date Just | T24006
The Lumina Date Just is a dive-style analog with date function, characterized by its crisp rotating bezel, and as the name suggests, applied indices and hands for low-light visibility. A solid build in 316L stainless steel, this collection highlights itself with a simple, yet recognizable wrist presence. The model is offered in four variations, all sharing the stainless steel build, from blue-black and green-black, to the all-time favourte pepsi-bezel paired to ivory and black dials.
Aurora Twilight | T23003
How would a watch stand out, without busy dials and complicated bracelets? You get an Aurora Twilight. An angular case with a bezel shaping the circular dial, paired to an integrated bracelet, all sounds vanilla on paper. But the contrast made by the sunburst dial with the brushed case and bracelet, and the visual impact of the absolutely pristine finish are things that only make sense once you’ve laid your eyes on one.
At that point, the Aurora Twilight needs no glorification. A clean, eye-catching build. At $210-$235, it’s what one would call a “no-brainer”.
Aurora Nova | T23104
If the Twilight is a bit too plain for your taste, there’s always the quirky sibling, the Aurora Nova. This men’s multifunction watch has a dial finish that literally whispers “Tornado”, sub dials for 24h time, dates, and weekday functions, and the angular Aurora case, this time, is integrated to a brushed Royal Oak-styled bracelet.
Across four colorways, the Aurora Nova is priced around $200 - $220. Quite accessible for that much character, if we say so ourselves.
